It’s No Picnic
Electro Summer Music Series makes free concerts cool again

What happens when you replace lame bands and early exits with new music from Boston’s hottest electronic artists?

A free concert series that won’t involve sitting outside on blankets.

Curated by Boston Phoenix Music Editor Michael Marotta, Electric Summer Music Series brings the show from the lawn to a sexier, mosquito-free setting: the W Lounge and its subterranean counterpart, Descent.

Things get off to a promising start this Thursday with Into the Alpha, an electronic side project from Cobi Mike of Gentlemen Hall, last year’s “Best Pop Rock Act” winners at the Boston Music Awards.

From there, they’ll veer from bass-heavy headbanging (M | O | D perform on August 16) to progressive dance (JASS on August 30) and back again with Somerville-based party rockers SPF 5000 closing things out on September 20.

After which, those blankets might come in handy once again.

Electro Summer Music Series
Thursdays, starting July 26
W Boston, 100 Stuart St., Theater District
(617) 261-8700

Price: Free
Nearby: Jacob Wirth; WIlbur Theatre; Shojo
