Sam XL of Pure Filth and David Harrow formerly of On-U Sound met in November 2010 while working on project’s for the Ninja Tune 20 year anniversary party in Los Angeles. The two Brit’s soon became friends and decided to team up working together on a series of small club installations in L.A called “Screwface” (a weekly off shoot of Bassface) and on the Bass Oasis Dome for Coachella 2011.
That summer they began to produce original music and visual content, developing a “Live” Pure Filth Sound show to accompany the pounding Bass of the mighty Pure Filth speaker system.
Over the last year they have crafted a sonic epilogue from Los Angeles alongside Underground star’s Warrior Queen, Kemst, Busdriver, Jakes, Mestizo, Nocando, RYAT and Crazy D.
Recently Pure Filth Sound made some noise at BASSFACE, L.A’s infamous underground electronic warehouse party alongside Flying Lotus, Jakes, Ras G, Monopoly and Teebs.
This spring Pure Filth Sound performed two weekend’s in a row at North America’s premier music festival Coachella in the Sahara tent.
Stay posted for a free mixtape/sampler of the forth coming LP (which is posted below), but in the meantime check our soundcloud link for free downloads.

That was my first 12″ but we didn’t call it “Hip-Hop” back then, it was Electro. Afrika Bambataa and the Soul Sonic Force http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrika_Bambaataa, Egyptian Lover http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_Lover etc, all that was all considered electro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electro_(music).
There used to be these dope Electro compilations out of London called “Crucial Electro” there was a whole series of them. I’d save up all my pocket money and buy them.

I have made underground music my life now for over 30+ years. From Punk rock in the late 70’s to Hip-Hop in the early/mid 80’s, to house and techno through the end of the 80’s into the 90’s into Jungle in the mid 90’s through 2006 into dub step and the beat scene up til present day. I’ve tried to keep progressing and feel blessed to have worked alongside and met some of the real pioneers from Afrika Bambataa & Hank Shocklee, to Juan Atkins and King Britt, to Grooverider, Goldie and Andy C, to Kutmah, Ras G and Flying Lotus and Hatcha, Mala, Skream, Benga and N-Type etc and now doing sound and working with people like Amon Tobin, David Rodigan, DJ Krush, Mixmaster Mike all the Trap crews blowing up in L.A right now.
28.) Top 5 events you’ve played since starting to DJ?
The Top events differ for me because sometimes I do sound and sometimes I DJ or I’m performing or both. Here’s some of my favorite events!
1.) Doing my first party in 92 and having a 1,000 peeps show up really opened my eyes to the power of good music
2.) Starting my Sunday weekly Samurai and having all the D & B greats come through and play for free!
3.) In 2007 Starting and playing Pure Filth, the 1st Dubstep weekly in the U.S at a real Speakeasy in Down Town LA & helping to lay down the foundation for the American Dubstep scene
4.) Doing my 1st area at Coachella 2009 and about 15,000 people mobbing our stage for Flying Lotus
5.) Doing Sound for Amon Tobins sold out ISAM tour last year was incredible and blew my mind!
Some quote’s from Sam XL… CEO of Pure Filth Sound and of the Pure Filth Record Label:
“It’s a blessing and I just keep trying to push the envelope on how people experience sound. Getting to write an album with an Underground legend like David Harrow is the cherry on the cake really. I try to follow my heart and my gut and not my wallet which can be difficult at times, especially when I see Dj’s/crews/promoters selling us out to the highest corporate bidder.”
“Maybe i’m a little hardcore but I got the words of Malcolm X ingrained into my head at an early ‘No Compromise…No Sell-out’. You can thank Keith LeBlanc for that!”
“I refuse to sell out and do cheesy shit…bury me in a Pure Filth Bassbin!”
